Okay kids.  Here’s the delio. I know it’s only January but between doing weddings of my own and second shooting with Rachel on so many of her weddings….my Spring/Summer weekends are quickly filling up.  I have had so many of you contact me about mini sessions so I wanted to at least get the date out so people can start planning ahead.   These will be the ONLY days that I will be doing child/family sessions until Fall so be sure to grab a spot!  I will be doing approx 6-8 per day.  I will also schedule a rain out weekend as well(prob for early June.)  If interested in securing your spot…please email me at sheila@sheilacastlephotography.com or fb message me.  50% deposit holds your spot:)

Okay first things first…..We all know how much I absolutely love blogging…hence, why I have been so awesome at keeping up with this one.  Sorry. Life/Work/Kids just to seem to always get in the way of blogging. And I’m okay with that.  It means that my life is full:)

Okay….so secondly, I am completely and utterly overwhelmed with gratefulness at all of the emails, fb messages and text messages that I’ve gotten since making my announcement that I will no longer be doing family/child sessions.  You all sure know how to make a girl feel loved.   It was not an easy decision for me to make.  It’s actually a decision that I have been mulling over for quite some time.   You can read more about that whole process HERE.    It’s not that I don’t love, love, love meeting and hanging with all of my fab family clients… I so do.  I have met some of the most amazing people through my work.  I’ve gotten to reconnect with high school friends that I haven’t seen in nearly 20 years and meet their awesome kiddos.  I have had brand new clients turn into some of my very dearest, closest friends.   It just doesn’t get any better than that.   It’s heartbreaking for me to give that up.  But I heard a quote the other day that sort of sums it up for me.  ”God does everything in seasons.  This season was just shorter than you thought it would be.”  Wow. So true and so relevant for me.  When I started this business…it was with the intention of being able to do what I love while also being able to focus on my family more.  Over the past year or so, I have found myself to be so busy and so consumed with the business and work and editing that I have lost sight of why I started it in the first place.   Believe me, I’m not complaning.  I know how unbelievably blessed I have been since starting all of this.  More than I deserve!   But in order to continue to put my family first in my life, I have to take a step back.  I have to really focus on the aspects of my business that I can give 100% to without feeling like I am taking away too much time from the things and people that matter most to me.

So all of that being said…..I will most definitely be doing one weekend of family/child mini sessions in the Spring. {May) And also one in the Fall{late October}.  These will essentially be the only times during the year that I will be doing these types of sessions.  The rest of my time will be divided between seniors/couples/maternity/boudoir/weddings.   Info on Spring mini sessions will be available soon:)

Again, I can’t thank all of you enough for continuing to support me in this crazy journey.  I am muddling my way through…learning as I go.  I don’t pretend to be a great business person{or a great blogger for that matter:}…far from it actually.  My hope is to continue riding this amazing wave of blessings for as long as God allows and to not make too many ginormous mistakes as I go:)  Looking forward to an amazing 2012:)

With Fall(and mini sessions!) right around the corner, I thought a couple of ‘What to Wear’ guides would be helpful! Hope everyone is having a great week!

I had the absolute pleasure this week of going to the first ever Lemonade and Lenses meetup.  If you haven’t heard of L & L, definitely check out the blog for some awesome inspiration! Hopefully this will be the first of many of these events!  I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome it was to hang out with some of the most talented photographers from our area.  The setting was gorgeous, the food was delish and the atmosphere was amazing.  Thanks again to Gina from Kiwi St. Studios and to Lexi from Lexi Vornberg Photography for putting so much heart and soul into this meetup.  I am in constant awe of the amazingly generous and helpful community of photographers we have right here in our own backyard!

Another Fix it Friday!! These are so fun!

FinalApril15
For my photog friends – Edited in PSE 9 ~ I went a little quick with this one because I had a screaming, crying almost 2 year old trying to help me so forgive me if I miss some steps in my editing process.

1. Levels adjustment for exposure.

2. Center fill light for her face.

3.Something about her left eye bugged me so I did some cloning there.

4. Added a white/cream color layer and switched blending mode to soft light. Inverted layer and painted over face.

5. Hue/Sat adjustment layer to whiten the whites of her eyes. Decreased reds, yellows, cyans, blues. Increased master lightness. Inverted layer and painted on whites of eyes at 25-30%.

5. Added a JD Illumination texture. I think I used Rusted Rainbow. Masked off skin.

6. Overall sharpen. Masked off skin.

Thats it!! So fun! Oh and just a disclaimer…..This is in no way, shape or form a tutorial. Just the way I do it! Probably not the easiest way or the best way but works for me!! :)

Thanks for taking the time to look!

Welcome to the new home of Sheila Castle Photography! You can still find some of my old stuff  HERE.  I wanted to simplify things in 2011 so instead of having a website and a blogsite and continuously trying to update both(which we all know..I am HORRIBLE at) I just decided to incorporate them both into one nifty little site and voila….simplicity.  I will still keep the old blog site up and running for my personal rants every now and then but everything you need is here so kick back, get comfy and look around.  Be sure to check out the new pricing info for this year as well as the fab new frames that I am offering from The Organic Bloom.  Can’t wait to see what 2011 holds!
